About Dr. Schatz
For more than three decades, Dr. Schatz has remained on the leading edge of technology in the field of eyecare. Over the years, he has been actively involved in professional activities including research and speaking publicly on eyecare. Dr. Schatz has been featured in the media on the subject of eyecare and Orthokeratology. Contact Lens Associates (CLA), founded by Dr. Schatz in 1979, has developed into one of the largest private contact lens practices in the country, and continues to remain on the cutting edge of eye care technology, ensuring that its patients are always provided with the latest state-of-the-art exam instrumentation and treatment options, and the finest eye care possible.
Dr. Schatz is known for his friendly, professional, soft-spoken demeanor, and his extensive experience in the contact lens industry. He provides each patient with a professional, thorough eye examination, while taking the time to explain each exam procedure and diagnosis. He then ensures that every patient understands all of their treatment options, and then tailors each treatment plan to fit the specific needs and goals of each patient.
Training and Experience
Dr. Schatz attained his Doctorate of Optometry degree in 1977 from the Pennsylvania College of Optometry. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiological Optics (1975), and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology with a minor in Zoology, from the University of Maryland (1973).
Since CLA's inception in 1979, Dr. Schatz has been experiencing years of growth and success with his private practice specializing in all types of Contact Lenses and in comprehensive Family Eye Care. As always, he continues to practice with an emphasis on advanced techniques utilizing the latest breakthroughs in the ophthalmic world. He has also been acting in a consulting capacity for over 35 years, aiding in the design of computer software programs for the eye care industry.
Dr. Schatz was the first optometrist in the State of Maryland to become a Diplomate, Board Certified by the American Board of Optometry. He holds adjunct faculty positions at the Pennsylvania College of Optometry at Salus University, and at the Southern California College of Optometry at Marshall B. Ketchum University, acting as a clinical instructor for their interns. He has also served as an FDA clinical investigator for multiple contact lens manufacturers. In addition, Dr. Schatz is a Clinical Examiner for the National Board of Examiners in Optometry, and practices as an affiliate doctor at TLC, The Laser Center. Dr. Schatz was named one of the nation's Top Optometrists, by the Consumer's Research Council of America, and is a member of the Maryland Optometric Association, the Contact Lens Section of the American Optometric Association, and the National Eye Research Foundation.
